New York State
'Vision 2020' NYSRPS Annual Conference and Expo
Westchester Marriott April 26-28, 2020
In the Beginning...
On June 8th, 1940 recreation professionals from several sections of the state met in White Plains at John Ebersole Restaurant to ensure qualified leadership and promote recreational programs, facilities, and services on the state and local levels. Professionals like Sidney G. Lutzin, William Leonard, James McCrudden, Peter Mayers, Walter Cammack, M. Esthyr Fitzgerald, Fay Mavin, Vivian Wills, E. Dana Caulkins, and others knew the importance of a unified voice speaking for park and recreation professionals and their constituents. Thus, the New York State Recreation and Park Society (NYSRPS) was born. Through the years NYSRPS has grown in strength and stature to a strong and functioning professional organization.
We are proud to celebrate our milestone 80th Anniversary in 2020 and is honored to have representatives from the Westchester Recreation and Parks Society (WRAPS) serving as the "Vision 2020" Conference Committee. Robert Kaczmarek of Scarsdale Park and Recreation, and Matthew Trainor from the Village of Pleasantville, are leading a terrific group of WRAPS professionals to coordinate all points of planning.
From the Co-Chairs...
Welcome to the "VISION 2020" NYSRPS Annual Conference!
The organizing committee is working hard to offer the best possible experience to all that attend. This starts with our amazing host hotel, The Westchester Marriott, which was our same host site in 2004. It has been updated significantly since then and we are looking forward to returning!
The goal of the 2020 Conference is to program for all four generations that are currently working in our field. As a profession, we need to program for the future by being entrenched in the present while utilizing skills and lessons learned from our past.
Being aware of our proximity to New York City, the Conference Committee is working on planning exciting sightseeing opportunities and CEU worthy offsite trips. Plans are being made for a variety of offerings which may include the 9-11 Memorial, the Ranger/Knicks training facility, the Rockefeller Estate, Central Park and Yankee / Tigers ballgame. Conference room rates will be extended for those interested in making this a destination conference.
From our program to the vendors, off-site socials to on-site events, every effort is being made to make your time with us here in Westchester a fulfilling experience both personally and professionally.
