We got into this field because we love it — the community impact, the joyful moments, the mission. But behind every event, program, and smiling face is a professional carrying the weight of invisible challenges. Not All Sunshine and Splash Pads (or Burnout, Bureaucracy, and Balance — whatever title you choose!) dives into the often-unspoken realities of working in Parks and Recreation. From burnout and compassion fatigue to political pressures, public scrutiny, and unrealistic expectations, this session will peel back the curtain on the emotional and professional toll of the work we do. Through open conversation, shared experiences, and reflection, attendees will gain insight, validation, and tools to navigate these challenges while protecting their passion and purpose. Let’s talk about the side of recreation that doesn’t get posted on social media — and how we can better support ourselves and each other in the process.
